A 56-year-old man lost his life in a tragic car accident last week. A Caltrans worker was also seriously hurt in the collision. The crash happened while a Caltrans road crew was performing maintenance on Highway 198 in Tulare County at approximately 9:30 a.m.
A 54-year-old man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck at the time of the collision. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Caltrans vehicle. The man who lost his life was riding as a passenger in the Dodge Ram pickup.
A 63-year-old Caltrans worker was seriously hurt in the collision. As of last reports, a hospital spokesperson reported that the man was in critical condition while receiving care at the hospital. The man who lost his life was pinned by the two vehicles. He was loading gear into the back of the other vehicle at the time it was struck. Another Caltrans worker suffered only minor injuries.
Police have determined that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in causing this tragic incident. However, it is unknown whether authorities suspect that the driver of the Dodge Ram was distracted, inattentive or using a cellphone when the crash happened.
California workers hurt in a car accident will have the ability to seek workers' compensation benefits to pay for their medical care and time spent unable to work. However, it is important for workers to file their workers' compensation claims as quickly as possible to ensure the swift processing of their benefits applications. The assistance of a qualified workers' compensation attorney can also be very helpful during the processing of an injured workers' benefits application.
